title pic Dating Vintage Vera Scarves – Part 2 Vintage Clothing Fashion Tips

Posted by admin on April 27, 2010

Yes, vintage Vera Neumann scarves are stunning, and you can choose to wear them or to collect them.  Some people do both.  I have seen a whole collection displayed in frames on a wall and they were stunning!  Vera’s bold use of color and pattern in her designs from the 40s and on up make for stunning art!

But how can you date your vintage Vera scarf?  I’ve compiled some information that will make it easier for you.  Here is what I have discovered, with the help of the Vera Company site.  By the way, did you know that in 2005 a woman named Susan Seid purchased all of the assets from the defunct Vera Neumann line as well as the trademarks and copyrights?  She created the Vera Comany LLC and is bringing the Vera look back!  Amazing how fashion recycles…..

Back to the dating tips:

  • Look at the logo to help you date it.  This is true for scarves or household items like napkins and place mats.
  • In the 50’s the signature is small with the letters about the same size.  There are no copyright marks on the 50’s items.  In the late 50’s the V became a bit larger
  • In the 60’s we see the copyright mark appear along with the ladybug
  • In the late 60s Vera’s name gets bigger and the ladybug is absent on some or is quite large.
  • In the early 70’s–no ladybug at all;  in 1973 we see the ladybug again and then it is removed again in 1976 and it does not come back at all through the 1980’s.
  • The 80’s see a smaller signature then Vera was using in the 70’s

All the tips above are just general guidelines and are not steadfast rules.

No matter what the era of your item, you know it is a true vintage clothing fashion work of art!
