Plus Size Vintage Clothing – Yes you can (Part 2)
Posted by admin on February 23, 2010
So, this is part two in the short series about plus size women and vintage clothing. We’ve already covered defining your style in this post. We explained that you need to take measurements of your bod and the clothes you love. Now that you have that done, what is next?
Figure out your figure!
What shape are you? Do you even know? Most fashion experts agree there are 4 to 6 different types of figure shapes for women that are plus sized. Here are the most common 4:

1) The Pear.
Your shoulders and bust line are smaller than your hips and thighs. Most of your weight is in your tummy, butt and thighs. Maybe the area under the waist broadens; it is normally widest 8 inches below the natural waist, creating what is called the low hip. Kate Winslet has what is called a Pear shape.
2) Hourglass
Curvy….hips and boob area about the same width. You have a well defined waist and it is seven inches or smaller than your boobs or your hips. The booty may be full and round, as are your thighs, but they are more narrow vs. your lower hips. You may have slim lower legs.
3) Apple
(Pear…apple….why the food names??)
Apples have mainly slim legs & hips but carry the bulk of their weight in the waist, boobs and back. You may be referred to as “top heavy”. Catherine Zeta Jones is referred to as an Apple shape.
4) Rectangle
No defined waist and a small bust? Kind of straight up and down? Rectangles tend to have slimmer arms and legs and a bit of a shorter neck. Kim Cattral is a rectangle.
So, take some time to figure out what shape you are. Embrace it, and in part 3 of my series you will learn what works best for your body shape!
