title pic Vintage Fashion – Why the Surge In Popularity?

Posted by admin on February 2, 2010

Over the past decade or so, there has been a huge leap in the popularity of vintage clothing. It is being worn by everyone, from teenagers to celebrities. The rise in the craving for vintage clothing has to do with many reasons, but I think one of the main ones is the desire to original. Wearing unique vintage clothing makes you stand out from the mass produced clothing collections that everyone else has on.

The seek and find part of the hunt for vintage fashion is another reason for the popularity I think. People have always liked to shop, at least most fashion conscience people, and by shopping for vintage accessories or clothing you have certain high or thrill when you find something spectacular. Online at a site like eBay or Etsy, or in a secondhand store, at a flea market or estate sale – no matter the source, it is fun.

The desire to go green is another important part of the culture and recycling is a sure fire way to “go green”. By wearing vintage fashion you are recycling and reducing the impact of more mass produced clothing for our toss out society. I’ve heard quite a few people say they enjoy the environmental helpfulness that wearing vintage creates.

Plus, saving money is a great perk to wearing vintage. You can save tons of your shopping budgets by shopping at places like Goodwill, Salvation Army, garage & estate sales and secondhand shops. You own a unique piece of clothing and you save money. What could be better?

Many celebrities such as Kate Moss, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Penelope Cruz and more enjoy vintage. This celebrity wow factor plays a part in the allure of the market to be sure.

Men’s vintage clothing is a growing trend as well, and that is helped by the Indie scene. Musicians are often seen sporting vintage men’s clothing shirts and pants, and that helps to spread the surge of vintage fashion.

If you are unsure of how much vintage you are comfortable with, mix it up. Pair a vintage top with your favorite pair of jeans or a vintage belt with a new dress. Play with your own personal style, because after all, that is where we should be most comfortable.
