Retro or vintage underwear has a fascination for women and men,  probably for different reasons.  One thing everyone agrees on is that vintage underwear has a certain elegance to it.  Typically it is very sensual in nature due to the design and the fabrics that were used to make it.

Today, you can find underwear that is new but made to look vintage, thus called retro underwear (remember, retro is a term used to describe new things that are made to look vintage).  Today’s fabrics make the retro underwear much more comfortable to wear as well as making it easier to care for as well.

The popularity of vintage clothing has made the demand for retro undergarments increase, as many people find themselves wanted to complete their entire look with accessories and undergarments. Nylon stockings have seen a surge in demand, which has not been the case since World War II days gone by!

Doubling the popularity for vintage underwear is the burlesque show revival; women are now in tune with that look and find the allure of suspender belts and stockings to be exciting and super sexy.  Don’t forget the corset too, and another lesser known item, a basque.  Basques are also known as torsolettes and is basically a shortened corselette.   It is meant to cover the area from the waistline to the chest.  It doesn’t compress the ribs as much as a corset does.  Usually there is a hook fastening in the back or laces, plus boning to keep the garment’s structure and support. It is also known as a merry widow.

Women’s interest in vintage underwear must come as a pleasant surprise for their partners who have for years longed for their women to don such items!  A new addition of a piece of retro underwear, especially if it is something you do not typically wear, can spark up any relationship!
